10 Reasons NOT to Get married
 Let’s assume that if couples marry for
the wrong reasons… the marriage won’t turn out well. It could end in
divorce, financial settlements, bitterness, depression and whole lot
of other things. It becomes infinitely worse when children are
involved.
Wouldn’t it be good if marriages had a platform to grow and develop
into a lasting happy life. Well… they can, but you need to give it
the best possible start… otherwise it’s doomed to fail right from
the beginning.
Have you ever heard the cliché that love is blind? Well it’s true
because sometimes couples become so overwhelmed by emotion,
sentiment, nostalgia, honour and a whole gamut of other emotions
that they become blind to rational thought.
Unconditional love is the foundation for a successful marriage and
sometimes people get married for reasons other than love. In these
cases the chances of the marriage failing increase substantially.
In determining the right reasons for marriage, let’s figure out the
wrong reasons. Everyone one has a different concept of marriage and
love can mean different things to each of us. But some people get
the whole concept of marriage just plain wrong! Here’s what I mean:
1. Pregnancy
A couple discover that they are pregnant. So they decide to get
married because it’s the right thing to do. Or it’s the honourable
thing to do. Why? Is it because society expects it? This is purely a
social construct that is a hangover from religious organizations who
believe that a child ought to be bought into the world by a father
and mother who are married, otherwise the child is illegitimate. If
the decision to marry due to pregnancy is because of the misguided
belief that it’s in the best interest of everyone, including the
unborn child… then think again.
